A stone’s throw from Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, the building dates back to around 1500. The pub is named after the Queen’s four ladies-in-waiting. Initially a dwelling house, the building has had several changes of use over the years – at one time it was a chemist’s run by the Waldie family whose most famous member, David, established the anaesthetic properties of chloroform in 1847. Beer festivals are held in May and October when 12 more handpumps are added.
